Overcome – Part 3 – Inadequacy
THIS WEEK’S MAIN IDEA
It’s pretty normal to feel inadequate sometimes. So often, we compare ourselves to people’s highlight reels. Low self-confidence can hold us back from loving and serving others the way we should. Jesus’ teaching to remain in his love and obey his commands helps us to find our confidence in him rather than trying to find it within ourselves. It’s through loving God and walking in obedience that we can overcome feeling so inadequate.

EXPLORE
-
Read Romans 12:1-2 and Romans 8:6
As Lucas said, mental health and mental illness are two different things. However, the world’s solution to mental health is often to believe in oneself, to be confident in who you are. The bible gives an alternative, you should look for peace in the Holy Spirit. It is easy to talk about trusting in the Spirit, but what habits can you practice, how can you prepare, so that when a time of crisis comes you remember to look to the Holy Spirit for peace and renewal instead of trying to rely on your own strength? -
Read 1 John 4:18, Ephesians 3:17-19 and Matthew 22:36-40
God offers his perfect love, but too often we treat him like a friend in return. What’s one thing you can change in your relationship with God to make it more of a loving relationship than a friendly acquaintance. -
Read Psalm 1:1-2 and Exodus 14:14
Sometimes the world gets it almost right, but they are just missing the critical piece that is God. Meditation and mindfulness are good, but can be even better when you bring God into it with you. Have you ever felt God speaking to you when you take time to actively meditate on what he’s saying in the bible? What is something in your daily life that you can give up for a minute every day to have a quiet moment with God? -
Read Philippians 2:13, Jeremiah 17:7-8 and 1 Peter 3:3-4
We live in a broken world, and in some ways, everybody is inadequate. However, in God we can find a lot of confidence. What’s one thing in your daily life that you can be more confident about because of God?
